The weather at the Jersey Shore has finally been warming up which means two things: the tourists will soon be invading and race season is here! In a couple days I’ll be doing my first five mile run in the Spring Lake 5 and I’m not ready. I’m not sure I’ll ever be ready!
My preparation began a few weeks ago to include more running and more importantly getting my playlist just right. I recently read an article that music can make the pain and struggle seem less since your focus is shifted to the beat. I really hope that’s true because I can use all the help I can get!
The other day I took a stroll on the sand listening to my playlist. I started go give myself a pep talk that went something like this, “You can do this! Imagine how many people physically can’t or won’t. You have an opportunity to run for those people and do something they can’t. If you need to stop and walk, it’s ok!” And then, I yawned.
There’s no yawning in pep talks! Who does that? I bet Rocky didn’t do that. I am going to have to dig really deep the next few days to find my beastmode.
I find myself in and out of healthy habits these last few months and I can only blame me. I am completely responsible and failing. One of my bad habits it starting a plan and not seeing it through. I quit too easily and revert back to old ways.
I know people who have lost a tremendous amount of weight over the last year and have stuck with it. That in itself is amazing. I often wonder how they do it. How do they keep the momentum going to reach the end goal? I am open to any advice I can get!
